Osun injects N7.4b into the state's economy

Osun state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, yesterday disclosed that his government has injected N7.4 billion into the state's economy through different programmes embarked upon in the last two years of his administration.

Speaking during a stakeholders meeting with some selected leaders of the party at the state secretariat of the party in Osogbo yesterday, Aregbesola said his programmes and policies in the last two years have contributed significantly to the economic development of the state. He disclosed that the government has invested huge sums of money into the education sector through the provision of computer tablets for secondary school students, provision of free meal for primary schools pupils and building of new classrooms in all the primary and secondary schools in the state.

He said the employment of youths in the Osun Youths Empowerment Scheme (OYES) has also contributed to the improvement of the state economy as about 40,000 youths have been employed through the scheme with over 18,000 absolved into the state civil service. Aregbesola who noted that the payment of monthly allowance to the elderly people in the state was part of efforts by his government to ameliorate poverty in the state, said the government pays N16 million monthly to the elderly people through the 'Agba Osun' scheme.

He said the beneficiaries of the scheme who are drawn from the 30 local government areas of the state are those who have no means of livelihood, adding that politics was not considered in the choice of the beneficiaries of the scheme.

The Governor assured that his government will construct more roads in addition to the ones already commissioned for use, stressing that 'you have not seen anything yet in terms of road construction in Osun state, what is in the offing will soon be made open and you will see real road construction in all parts of the state soon.' He enjoined all members of the ACN in the state to mobilize support for his government, even as he charged them to give maximum support to his administration
