SAN FRANCISCO, January 22, (THEWILL) – At least 5 persons have been killed by gunmen in the Dakata District of Kano.

The attack occurred Tuesday at about 6.45pm Nigerian time.

Eyewitnesses told THEWILL that the gunmen who were on a motorcycle opened fire indiscriminately killing at least 5 persons with two others seriously wounded.

Kano State Police Spokesman, Mr. Musa Majia confirmed the shooting to THEWILL but wasn’t sure of the number of casualties because information was still sketchy.

Kano has witnessed an increase in terror related attacks in the last few days including the fatal attack on the convoy of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Dr. Ado Bayero.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has banned the use of motorcycles for commercial transportation in the state following the significant number of attacks executed on the quick getaway machine.

The ban was announced today.
