Ekiti Rerun Poll: INEC Declares Oni Winner

The Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Olusola Adebayo, on Tuesday, announced Mr Segun Oni, PDP governorship candidate, as the winner of the April 25 rerun election.

Adebayo said the PDP candidate scored 44, 361 votes as against Dr Kayode Fayemi of AC who got 28,118 votes in the 10 local governments and 63 wards where the election took place.

The results of the election as announced by the INEC Returning Officer were : Ekiti East Local Government (PDP 4,711, AC 3,829), Ekiti West Local Government (PDP 2,497, AC 1,139) and Ikole Local Government (PDP 4,071, AC 3,639).

Others were Ido/Osi local government (PDP 15, 939, AC3 ,793) and Oye (AC 802, PDP 1,268).

INEC had on April 26 announced the five collated local governments which included Gbonyi Local Government (PDP 1,925, AC 2,871) and Ise/Orun Local Government (PDP 3,864, AC 4,221).

Others were Ijero Local Government (PDP 5,221, AC 1,881), Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government PDP (4,087, AC 5,702) and Ekiti South West Local Government (PDP 418, AC 387).

The Christ Girls School collation centre in Ado-Ekiti, where the results were announced, witnessed a rowdy session and local television had to switch off their live pictures .

Adebayo was later escorted out of the collation centre amid tight security after the announcement of the results.
