Uduaghan Inaugurates 18-man Committee To Boost Secondary School Football Competition

ASABA, April 11, (THEWILL) - Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has inaugurated an 18-man committee to boost secondary school football and create a sense of competition among students in the state.


Dr. Uduaghan stated that the committee was inaugurated to help re-invigorate secondary school sports and promote career opportunities for the young ones.


He explained that school sports were important because it not only empowers students but also motivates them to achieve higher self-esteem.


Speaking further, the governor enumerated the benefits of secondary school sports to include the maintenance of healthy body weight, a healthy lifestyle and the prevention of chronic diseases.


The governor specifically directed that the competition should commence in the first term of next academic session and appealed to the committee to diligently handle the responsibility.


“Secondary school sports can become a foundation on which our future sports is built. Our goal is to provide opportunity for every child to fully exploit and exhibit his talents,” he said.


He observed that his administration has explored secondary school sports as an avenue to develop human capital and charged all stakeholders to co-operate with the committee to achieve success.


“We have the potentials to discover these talents in our secondary schools and train them to become football professionals. As a state we will sponsor the young talents and ensure that we become a football state.”


Responding, the Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare appreciated the initiative of the state government in re-introducing secondary school sports competition to help build future international athletes.


He commended the governor for appointing them to serve the state in that capacity and promised that the committee would live up to expectation.


Members of the committee are Prof. Patrick Muoboghare - Chairman, Mr. Utebor Emmanuel- Secretary, Mr. Ebifa Ijeoma - member, two international football stars, Mr. Austin Jay-Jay Okocha and Mr. Victor Ikeba will serve as members among others.
