President Jonathan Congratulates Idris Wada, Kogi Governor-Elect

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has congratulated Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on his victory in Saturday's governorship elections in Kogi State, after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced

 Wada as the winner.
President Jonathan, in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Reuben Abati, said that 'As Capt. Wada and his running mate, Architect Yomi Awoniyi prepare to assume the mantle of leadership in Kogi, President Jonathan assures them of the full support and cooperation of the Federal Government in their quest to build on the efforts of their predecessors to develop the state.

'The President also commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), ad-hoc staff recruited for the elections, especially members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the police and other security agencies for working very hard to ensure that the trend of notably improved elections in the country was continued in Kogi State yesterday (Saturday).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced Capt. Idris Ichalla Wada as the winner of the Kogi state governorship election held on Saturday.

Capt. Wada had out of a total vote tally of 591,000, scored 300,372 votes, followed by James Audu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with 159,000, while the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) secured 9,642 and 5,724 votes respectively.

Commenting on the conduct of the election, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman representing Kogi Central on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who commended INEC for ensuring that the exercise was transparently conducted, called on the people to join hands with the incoming PDP-led government for the total transformation of the state and assured that the new government of PDP in the state would be made to affect the lives of the people positively.

"I want to assure the people that we will make sure that the new government of PDP under Idris Wada that will come into force in April 2012 meet up with the yearnings and aspirations of the people. I congratulate the PDP for the overwhelming victory," he said.
