Akpabio Honoured With US Congressional Certificate In Houston
SAN FRANCISCO, August 10, (THEWILL) – The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio was over the weekend in downtown Houston, Texas conferred with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition by a member of the United States House of Representatives, the respected Ms. Sheila Jackson Lee, following what she described as Akpabio’s exemplary leadership and uncommon transformation of Akwa Ibom State.
Ms. Lee, who presented the certificate on behalf of the 18th Congressional District of Texas, said it was in recognition of the leadership qualities of Akpabio and his resolve in turning around the fortunes of Akwa Ibom State.
Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, wife of the governor was also recognized and presented with a certificate by Ms. Lee for her charity works centered on widows, women, poverty and the disabled.
The Certificate was presented at the Gala night and the launch of Uyai Iban International by the Governor’s wife, which chronicled the activities organised by Akwa Ibom Diaspora Network (AIDN) in United States of America (USA).
An elated Akpabio said the recognition was a big boost to his morale and resolve to transform Akwa Ibom infrastructurally.
“I am happy that a true story can come from Akwa Ibom State…We represent the new future for Nigeria and indeed, Africa. Our desire is to make our state a role model for others to emulate.
“On behalf my wife, I receive this certificate with humility and this recognition would spur us to do more work to empower our people for greater Nigeria,” he added.
He thanked the Ms. Lee and the United States Congress for their resolve to back democracy worldwide saying, states would continue to emulate the works of the United States government.
