EKITI COMMUNITY ACCUSES POLICE OF SHIELDING HERDSMEN FROM ARREST

ADO-EKITI - THE people of Ijani Ekiti community in Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti State have alleged that a senior State Criminal Investigation Department, CID, operative in Ekiti is shielding some Fulani herdsmen alleged to have been involved in recent armed robberies in the community from arrest and prosecution.

Speaking in his palace, yesterday, the Onijan of Ijan Ekiti, Oba Samuel Oyewole Fadahunsi, alleged that efforts by the community to check the rising armed banditry in the area through vigilante, had been frustrated by the said officer.

He lamented that no fewer than five persons, including a pregnant women had been killed by the robbers recently, claiming that some of the youths in the vigilante group were arrested and charged to court on trump up charges.

The royal father called on Governor Kayode Fayemi and Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim to rescue the community from the hands of armed robbers and the police officer.

Oba Fadahunsi lamented that the community had hitherto been peaceful and crime-free, became a fertile ground for robbers due to bad roads and frustration of the vigilante group by the senior CID officer.
