The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The arrest, which just happened, is believed to be in connection with the inflation of contracts handled in the House to the tune of N40 billion. He is believed to be an accomplice in the case the anti-graft agency has against the former Speaker of the House, Dimeji Bankole.

Few days ago, the agency had stated that Bankole, with the support of some of his colleagues now at large were involved in the case against him and that the agency would ensure that they are brought to book.

The EFCC had last week Wednesday quizzed principal officers of the sixth House of Representatives in connection with the scam that led to the arrest and detention of Bankole since last Sunday and arraigned on a 16-count charge of contract inflation amounting to N9 billion while he held sway as the leader of the House of Representatives.

Those who were invited included   Nafada; former House Leader, Tunde Akogun; Baba Shehu Agale; Suliaman Kawu; Bello Mohammed; and Senator Ali Ndume, who was the Minority Leader in the sixth assembly. The politicians were released after interrogation.

Newly elected Speaker Aminu Tambuwal and his deputy, Emeka Ihedioha, who were Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip respectively were however not part of those invited.

The offences against Bankole and his colleagues were said to have been contrary to section 58(4) (a) of the Public Procurement Act punishable under section 58(5) of the same law.

Nafada may appear in court tomorrow .
