ACN raises alarm over PDP plot to scuttle rally

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) says it has uncovered an orchestrated plan by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the governorship candidate of the party, Mr Rotimi Amaechi who is the governor of Rivers State to frustrate the ACN Presidential campaign flag off in the state today, March 15, 2011.

A statement issued by the Director of Publicity and Communications of Abiye Sekibo Campaign Organization, Jerry Needam says all the nooks and crannies of Port Harcourt have been invaded by mobile courts at the instance of the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi to hinder free flow of traffic and harass bus drivers conveying ACN supporters ahead of the Presidential rally.

The statement further alleged that unlike in the past, the mobile courts are flooded at all the major entrances to the liberation stadium Elekahia, the venue of the Presidential rally with specific instructions to target all ACN campaign vehicles carrying supporters to the stadium.

 
“As at the time of issuing this statement, over 200 buses conveying ACN supporters to the liberation stadium in Port Harcourt have been arrested thereby intimidating the rest bus drivers from conveying ACN supporters to the venue of the rally” Jerry Needam revealed.

Jerry Needam described the development as unfortunate and unlawful as it runs foul of the electoral law that demands for equal political space and fair treatment to all political parties.

The Director of Publicity of Abiye Campaign Organization however enjoined all supporters and members of ACN not to be deterred by the evil plot of the PDP and Governor Amaechi turn out enmass to welcome the ACN Presidential candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and the Party's National Officers for the official hand-over of the governorship flag to Dr Abiye Sekibo as the next Executive Governor of Rivers State.
