SAINT FRANCIS STUDENTS TAKE TO THE TRACKS

The elements were no doubt in agreement with the Saint Francis Secondary School, Idimu, Lagos when it recently held its 18th Inter-House Sports competition at the school's sports ground.

The weather was clement throughout the duration of the event and it helped propel the athletes as they strove for excellence.

Though it was a keenly contested event where all of the participants outshone each other in different areas of sporting activities, it was quite entertaining.

The race included Intermediate, senior boys and girls, 400×100 metres, 800 metres senior, junior boys and girls, 4×100 relay, 4×400 relay. There were also parents, old students, staff, rotund and expanded race, no winner, no loser race and more.

The senior, intermediate and junior boys and girls also participated in the long and high jump, shot put, discuss and sack race.

Invited schools such as Holy Child College, Ikoyi, St, Gregory's College Ikoyi, St, Finbarrs College, Akoka, Yaba, Our Lady of Apostles Girls College, Yaba, Binta International Secondary School, Ejigbo, St. Monica, Blessed Assurance, Queen Marris, Ikotun, Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School, Maryland, St. Saviours High School, Ijegun, Gideon Comprehensive High School, Isolo, Igbobi College, Yaba, Apata Memorial High School, Isolo, among others, added colour to the occasion including the vuvuzela.

At the end of the tournament, the School Administrator, Reverend Father Emmanuel Ugwejeh, and chairman of the occasion, Mr. Metcalfe David, presented trophies to the winners.

Some of the houses and students that distinguished themselves were also recognized and given medals. The award for Most Outstanding House went to Cusimano House, while Assisi House was the Most Improved House.

Most Outstanding Male Athlete award went to Adeoti Korede (Olorunfunmi House) who got three Gold medal, one Silver medal and the Most Outstanding Female Athlete, Ijoma Tochukwu of Loyola House carted home 3 Gold and I Bronze medals.

The winners were as follows: Best House: Cusimano (Yellow) House: 17 Gold, 16 silver, 10 bronze, Olorunfunmi (blue) House got 14 Gold, 15 silver, 10 bronze and the third place went to Loyola (red) House, with 12 Gold, eight silver, 20 bronze and Assisi (green) House: eight Gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze.

Some of the organizations that supported the school included NLPC Pensions funds, Afribank Trustees, Interprom, Nutri C, 7up Bottling Company plc, Macmillan Publishers, Longman Nigeria, among others.
