Toke Makinwa Reveals Reason She Stopped Gifting Men

Popular media personality and actress Toke Makinwa has opened up about why she no longer buys gifts for men she dates.

Speaking on her Toke Moments podcast with reality star Beauty Tukura as a guest, she traced the decision back to a painful experience she had as an undergraduate.

Makinwa recounted how she spent her university semester's school fees to celebrate her older boyfriend's birthday at an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island. However, after returning home, she discovered another woman in his house.

According to her, the incident left her traumatized and changed her perspective on giving gifts in relationships.

She said:
"I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester's school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in Victoria Island.

"He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home…there was another woman in his house. That broke me."
