Nigerian Musicians Aren't Versatile – Solidstar Blames Overdependence On Afrobeats
Nigerian singer and songwriter Joshua Iniyezo, popularly known as Solidstar, has voiced his concerns about the lack of versatility among Nigerian musicians.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he criticized the industry's heavy reliance on Afrobeats, arguing that it has stifled creativity and experimentation.
He noted that when he started his career around 2009/2010, Afrobeats was not as dominant, and genres like Fuji still enjoyed massive recognition. He urged artistes and industry players to stop overhyping mediocre content and focus on promoting quality music.
He wrote:
"Nigerian musicians aren't versatile. Stocked on one genre (AFROBEATS). Nothing like AFROBEATS when I came out fully in 2009/2010, Fuji was even huge! Make dem stop overrating nonsense and start selling good music."
