Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has shared fond memories of late actor Alexx Ekubo, revealing that the 40-year old actor had big plans for his 80th birthday celebration next year.

Edochie spoke about the three times he met Ekubo, describing him as someone who left an indelible impression.

Speaking in a video on social media, the father of Yul Edochie recalled that on their first meeting, Ekubo arrived at his hotel with a big cow and a group of Ogene drummers to invite him to an event. He expressed sadness that the late actor, who had such grand plans for his birthday, is no longer alive.

Pete Edochie also praised IK Ogbonna for proving himself a true friend, both in life and in death.

He said:
"Alexx Ekubo came, he saw, and he left an indelible impression. I met him three times. On the first occasion, he arrived at my hotel with a big cow and a group of Ogene drummers to invite me to an event. I was told he had big plans for my 80th birthday celebration next year, but unfortunately, he is gone. IK Ogbonna proved himself a true friend, both in life and in death."

The Nigerian Voice reported that Alexx Ekubo gave up the ghost on May 11, at the age of 40, following a battle with cancer.

The actor's Service of Songs was held at the Monarch Event Centre in the Lekki area of Lagos State on June 10. The ceremony drew a mix of Nigeria’s entertainment and political elite. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as colleagues, friends, and fans came together to pay their final respects to the beloved actor.

Recall that following the arrival of the actor's body at his father’s compound at Arochukwu, Abia State on Wednesday, June 17, a wake-keep was organized in his memory, with Ini Edo, IK Ogbonna, Mike Godson, Omoni Oboli, Ayo Makun, amongst others in attendance.

Alexx Ekubo was finally laid to rest amidst tears on Thursday, June 18.
