Nigeria Now Has A 'Peller Culture' – Ycee Laments Decline In Education

Nigerian rapper and singer Oludemilade Martin Alejo, professionally known as Ycee, has expressed concern over what he perceives as a decline in the value placed on education in Nigeria.

Speaking on the Afropolitan podcast, he observed that academic excellence is no longer celebrated in the country.

Ycee noted that the "Yahoo culture" has now been replaced by what he termed a "Peller culture." He described the rise of the "Olodo" uprising as alarming, adding that society appears to be accommodating ignorance to the point where it has become the majority.

He also described the attack on Nigeria's educational system as massive and concerning.

The 'Jagaban' crooner further questioned the message being sent to young people when fame and financial success are linked to controversial or unintelligent online content.

He said:
"Nigerian society is no longer celebrating academic excellence. People don't even want to go to school anymore. It's not even Yahoo culture anymore; now we have a 'Peller culture.'

"This 'Olodo' uprising we are witnessing is terrible. It feels like we are trying so hard to accommodate ignorance so people won't feel bad, and now they seem to be the majority. The massive attack on Nigeria's educational system is alarming."
