'You Were Exceptional' – Late Alex Ekubo's Mother Pens Heartfelt Tribute
The mother of late Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo, Evangelist Mrs. Jane Mmerechi Ekubo-Okwaraeke, has poured out her heart in a moving tribute following his burial in Arochukwu, Abia State.
The emotional message, which was featured in the funeral programme, came after the actor was laid to rest on June 18. Alex passed away on May 11, 2026, at the age of 40, after a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
In her tribute, Mrs. Ekubo-Okwaraeke reflected on the deep void her son's passing has left in her life. She spoke of missing his daily calls, their shared moments of prayer and worship, and the encouragement he always offered during difficult times. She recalled how he would lift her spirits whenever she felt weak, reminding her to stay strong and trust in God. Describing him as a priceless gift, she said his life brought joy and pride to everyone who crossed his path.
The grieving mother also expressed gratitude that Alex lived a life dedicated to God and humanity, spreading the Gospel without shame. She remembered him as a resilient, humble, and generous soul who left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him. While acknowledging the pain of losing him, she found comfort in the hope of meeting again on resurrection morning.
She also extended her appreciation to his wife, Anwuli, for her support during his final days.
The tribute read:
"A Tribute to My Exceptional Son – I Love You Till Tomorrow"
"Chief Ikuku Oma, thank you for being my joy and my pride. I am still longing for your calls, chats, care, unconditional love, your gist, your encouragement, your advice, our corporate prayers, and our praise and worship sessions."
