Awards In The Music Industry Are Being Lobbied For – Brymo Claims
Nigerian musician Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, has aired his view on awards and recognition in the music industry, stating that he lacks interest in it.
Speaking in a recent interview on TVC while discussing his latest album, 'Shaitan,’ the singer opened up on the notion behind his songs titles, attributing it to a move common in the music industry, where curiosity and fear are used to garner the attention of the audience.
According to him, his controversial titles are merely a hook to draw listeners in, stating that there is no negative effect in his songs.
Speaking on awards and recognition, Brymo maintained that he is solely focused on making meaningful music and gaining a consistent stream of income.
He claimed that majority of the awards in thr industry are not free and fair, but are lobbied for with money, an act he expressed unwillingness to join.
He said:
"There’s this whole idea that the business world always uses fear and intrigue to sell and to pull you out of your peaceful state of mind, and it works all the time.
"You can’t threaten me with some flashy award because I know what I’m doing.
“If you don’t subscribe to those things, then you are rated below where you should be. And the worst part is that the awards are being lobbied for, so why would I pay money to look like I’m big when I can just work and then know in my soul that I’m big."
