It was an evening of remembrance and heartfelt celebration as Nollywood stars, gospel music heavyweights, and dignitaries gathered on Wednesday, June 10, to honor the late Alexx Ekubo at a solemn service of songs.
Held at the Monarch Event Centre in the Lekki area of Lagos State, the ceremony drew a mix of Nigeria’s entertainment and political elite. The atmosphere was charged with emotion as colleagues, friends, and fans came together to pay their final respects to the beloved actor.
Among the distinguished guests was former Nigerian Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, whose presence underscored the late actor’s broad impact beyond the screen.
The service was deeply spiritual, with popular clergymen Ituah Ighodalo and Jerry Eze ministering to the gathering. Their words of comfort were interwoven with powerful musical tributes from some of Nigeria’s finest gospel voices, including Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Moses Bliss, Mercy Chinwo, and the Laud Urban Choir, filling the hall with songs of hope and farewell.
Nollywood’s brightest stars turned out in force to bid their colleague goodbye. Actresses Funke Akindele, Dayo Amusa, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Ini Edo, Blessing Nze, and Ruth Kadiri were all in attendance, as were actors Ike Ogbonna, Stan Nze, Kunle Remi, and Mike Godson.
The entertainment industry was further represented by comedian AY, fashion designer Yomi Casual, media personality Frank Edoho, celebrity bartender Cubana Chief Priest, musicians Kcee, Chike, and Nambam, as well as socialite E-Money.
As the night drew to a close, what lingered was not just grief, but a collective celebration of a life that touched many, which was a testament to the enduring legacy of Alexx Ekubo.
Recall that The Nigerian Voice reported that the actor gave up the ghost on May 11, at the age of 40, following a battle with cancer.
