2011: AS RIVERS STATE CELEBRATES THREE YEARS OF EXCEPTIONAL GOVERNANCE UNDER THE STEWARDSHIP OF RT. HON ROTIMI CHIBUIKE AMAECHI, PPA SETS UP SPECIAL COMMITTEE MANDATED TO ENSURE A RE-ELECTION BID BY THE GOVERNOR
Top on the agenda of an emergency meeting of the Leadership and
stakeholders of the Princewill Political Associates (PPA) held at the
residence of its Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya on the 23rd October,
2010 was a thorough review of the political climate in Rivers State and
the giant strides by its indefatigable Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi
even as he prepares to commemorate the third anniversary of his
administration.
The meeting was concluded with the unanimous adoption of three major
resolutions for immediate implementation by the Association.
1. That as partners to the Governor within this period the Associate
should move further to purchase the PDP Guber Intent Form for the Governor
in appreciation for his commitment and zeal in the revolutionary steps he
has taken in turning around the fortunes of the State these past three
years. The Leadership was given two weeks to ensure that the Governor's
Form is delivered to him. On the fear that the Governor may not accept it
in view of the fact that he is still reluctant to contest the 2011
gubernatorial election, the meeting resolved that if the Governor refuses
to see reasons with the good people of Rivers State that includes the
entire students in the State, the Royal Fathers, stakeholders and other
interest Groups that he should contest the next gubernatorial election
then the leadership of PPA will be left with no other option than to sue
the Governor for breach of trust as he earlier gave the general public his
commitment towards building a new Rivers State and he cannot for his
personal comfort after laying the foundation for a greater Rivers State
abandoned it midway for another fellow to come and disrupt all the
structures in that regard and probably take the State to the evil of years
of waste and squandermania associated with most of the people desiring to
contest the 2011 guber election. If that is what we must do to ensure that
the Governor contests, we will be left with no option that to do it.
2. The Associates also resolved to set up a formal Campaign Team
saddled with the responsibility of working to ensure the re-election of
Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi as Governor of the state come 2011. The
State Central Campaign Team is to be headed by Dr. Ibiamu Ikanya with Barr
Osima Ginah, Secretary; Chief Gani Tobpa, Director of General Mobilization
while Chief Eze C Eze is to serve as Publicity Secretary. Other members of
the Team responsible for mobilising different groups include Dr. Mrs.
Edith Wele (Women) and Mr. Norisia Pepple (Youth). The Zonal and LGA
Coordinators were also inaugurated.
3. The Associates resolved also to mandate all its members to mobilize
at least 1000 people from each local government area for participation in
the upcoming 27th October 2010 event holding at the Diette-Spiff Civic
centre in Port Harcourt as part of the activities commemorating the third
anniversary of this administration. At this special event, the Governor is
expected to render details of his stewardship in the past three years. The
success of mobilizing for this event according to the associates will
afford them the opportunity of evaluating their preparedness ahead of the
2011 polls.
Speaking at the end of the meeting, Dr. Ikanya graciously accepted the
offer of leader of the Campaign Team. He also congratulated all the
members of the team and charged each of them to justify their appointments
and ensure that collectively they can prevail on the Governor to signify
his interest in seeking re-election in 2011. Their support for a
re-election bid according to Dr Ibiamu, is for the purpose of ensuring
continuity and most of all to ensure consolidation of all people centred
projects and policies initiated by this administration.
He stated that the impact of this administration has so far been felt in
various areas ranging from Education, Urban Transportation, Road
Construction and rehabilitation, Security, Urban Renewal etc.
Ikanya also used the opportunity of the meeting to acquaint all members
with the 26th October, 2010 launch of the administration's project
60-60-60 initiative in the health sector. According to him the project
will involve commissioning one fully equipped health centre a day in 60
different communities in the state over a period of 60 days.
In conclusion, he cautioned that the body was not set up to usurp the role
of any official campaign machinery that will be formally set up by the
Governor when he decides to seek re-election. He went on to state that it
would be in the best interest of all members of the group to see the
association as more of a pressure Group out to ensure the articulation of
a great future for the people of Rivers State.
Prince Tonye Princewill the Leader of the Movement who addressed the
gathering from his London base told members that “I am happy of all the
resolutions that you people have adopted. It is totally in tandem with my
stand as earlier stated why I have decided to bury my gubernatorial
ambition to pave way for this man of the moment to continue his
revolutionary acts. I cannot for personal gains decide to constitute an
obstacle to the general interest of the State considering that our Royal
Fathers in the State have decided that Amaechi should continue we must do
everything humanly possible to ensure that he succeeds to avoid the
misfortune of the State falling into obvious wrong hands”.
