Almost Anyone Can Run For Political Positions Today – Actress Rita Edochie Bemoans Decline Of Politics In Nigeria

Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has berated the state of politics in Nigeria, noting how the political space is now saturated with too many individuals.

In a recent Instagram post, the movie star revealed that the politics in Nigeria has been degraded as anyone can come out to contest for a position with little or nothing to offer.

According to her, previously, whenever anyone wanted to run for any political office, a concrete evaluation and background check would be carried out to check their competence no matter how small the office.

Rita Edochie noted how it is a stark contrast to the current reality as everyone is now solely interested in getting out of the national cake, with representation and service no long the leading factor.

She wrote:

When Nigeria was Nigeria, every contestant had to have a concrete evaluation and must be equal to the task before coming out to contest for any small political office. I am not talking about a governship, just a small local government position. You must be thoroughly evaluated and eligible.

But today, almost anyone can run for office, regardless of competence, vision, or what they have to offer the people.

Public office is now treated as an open stage for anyone and everyone, including those with neither the capacity nor the character, nor the genuine solutions needed, to serve the people.

I don’t know when politics became a dumping ground for people who swim in the pool of illusions.

Everybody wants to make him face show and make him shoe shine.
