CORPORATION, EMBASSY ORGANISE CHINESE FILM WEEK

Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), in collaboration with Chinese Embassy, in Jos, opened a “Chinese Film Week”.

The NFC Managing Director, Mr Afolabi Adesanya, said that the event, which is the first of its kind, was aimed at fostering relations between the two countries.

He said there would be display of Chinese cultural norms and values, and expressed the hope that the event would provide the necessary environment for promoting inter-cultural relationships through film.

Nigeria and China are known to have rich cultures and vast human and natural resources which bind the citizens of both nations.

He noted that the acceptance of the embassy to partner with the NFC was a vote of confidence in the Nigerian motion picture industry.

He said that the event would provide an avenue for motion picture practitioners to network with the embassy in the area of motion picture production.

The Cultural Counsellor of the embassy, Mr Jiang WeigWing, highlighted the history of the Chinese movie industry which he said had produced 7,000 movies in 100 years.

There was a colourful exhibition of Chinese and Nigerian artworks at the premises of the Nigerian Film Institute and a cultural display by some troupes. The event ends on Saturday.
