Recent investigations by pointblank news.com reveal that former Economic Adviser to late President Umaru Yar'Adua, Tanimu Kurfi is behind the fiery opposition mounted by Tanko Yakassai against President Goodluck Jonathan running in 2011.

Kurfi has an ally in former Agriculture minister under Yar”Adua, Abba Ruma. Both men were top confidants of the late President in charge of billions of naira tagged security votes. They led the cabal that included cronies like the former head of the presidential fleet, chief security officer, Yusuf Tilde, and Aide De Camp, Onoyiveta and ex first lady, Turai.

Yakassai had severally tagged Jonathan an opportunist, and traitor, in his campaign against clamor the for the President to run in 2011. He has even threatened an uprising if Jonathan should run for presidency.

Sources hinted on Friday that Yakassai got a whooping N150 million from Kurfi to facilitate anti-Jonathan campaign on several fronts, including the media, youth movements, women's groups in the north. The fund, it was learnt, is first instalment for the Yakassai flank of the anti-Jonathan project.

It was further learnt that Kurfi and Ruma are already expressing frustration at what they term ineffective campaign by Yakassai, sequel to the split position of the Northern. They point to the support Jonathan is getting from youth, and women groups in the north. This was compounded by the divided position of the Northern Governors Forum on the issue of zoning.

According to sources, the duo of Kurfi and Ruma have vowed to throw spanner in the works at all cost. They are still seething in anger sequel to their sack and the security search light currently on them over their role in the billions of naira that varnished under security vote while Yar'Adua was in hospital.

Yakassai also has the mandate to ensure the Northern Governors insist on zoning. But according to sources, he was not very successful at their last meeting in Kaduna. Seven Governors at that meeting wanted zoning thrown out, while ten from the core north said “ there should be wide consultation” on the issue, while maintaining that Jonathan has the right to run.

Already Yakassai has applauded the forum's move, but Yobe governor who abstained, Ibrahim Geidam,has described the zoning arrangement as unconstitutional. Kano State Governor, who voted for zoning has retraced steps saying “it's a party affair and should not stop any Nigerian from running”

Our source disclosed that, Kurfi who prefers Mohammadu Buhari, has already made available N800 million to the retired General to boost his campaign.
