FG to commence revamp of Enugu coal industry next year

The All Progressives Congress, APC, South-East geopolitical zone chapter, yesterday, said that the Federal Government has concluded plans by 2016 to commence the process that will culminate in the revamping of the moribund coal industry in Enugu State.

It said the action will boast electricity generation through coal fired power plants and provide employment for the teeming unemployed youths in the region and reverse the groundswell of agitation for a Biafran nation.

Welcoming scores of decampees who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to APC, in Eke Ward, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, South-East spokesperson of APC Caucus, Mr. Osita Okechukwu said: 'President Muhammad Buhari has concluded arrangements to fulfil his campaign promise to Enugu people of re-activating Enugu coal deposits for power generation.

'Recall my brothers and sisters that Mr. President made the pledge to revamp Enugu coal on January 10, this year at Okpara Square, Enugu. It is this campaign pledge that he is set to redeem by jump-starting the project in 2016.

'This reminds me of the criticism that President Buhari's 2016 budget deficit of N2.2 billion is unrealistic. To be sincere the fear is misplaced. It is misplaced because Nigerians will harvest from the President's high profile ratings by the international community.' Vanguard
