PDP Condemns Destruction Of APC Office In Okrika

By Rivers State PDP

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, receives the reported destruction of a building accommodating the Local Government Council Office of the All Progressives Congress in Okrika with sadness, and calls on the security agencies to ensure perpetrators of such needless action are brought to book..

The Party believes that whoever carried out such reckless act may have done it out of ill-conceived motive, not germane to democratic principles, appealing to all politicians to play politics with love, tolerance and fairness.

The PDP also frowns at the early statement credited to the APC guber candidate, Mr Dakuku Peterside, alleging that PDP supporters were responsible for the action, describing Mr.. Peterside's claim as premature, irresponsible, inciting and least expected of the calibre of person he claims to be.

Urging the Police to conduct wider investigation into the incident, the PDP believes that the act may have been carried out by aggrieved members of the APC who are still not satisfied with the candidature of Mr Dakuku Peterside, as the process leading to his emergence was undemocratic and faulty. This is an issue the APC leaders need to address to avert this kind of security breach in the State.

The PDP further calls on the Police and other security agencies to intensify their operations in tracking down APC members destroying its campaign materials and those of the Party's Guber Candidate, Chief Nyesom Wike, and condemns Dakuku Peterside for hastily blaming the PDP for the Okrika APC office destruction, while seeing nothing wrong with the APC members who were arrested for destroying PDP campaign materials in the State.

PDP reiterates its commitment to violence free campaigns and free and fair elections, noting that like the President had said, no personal ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian citizen, and also calling on all political gladiators to conduct themselves in a most democratic and civilized manner before, during and after the general elections.
