WHY I AM NOT A MEMBER OF COSON –CHARLY BOY

Copy Right Society of Nigeria, is a new collective society in Nigeria which seems to be gaining more and more ground in the music industry.

However, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has said that he is not and will not be a part of the society.

Giving his reason, the musician cum publisher said, 'When the news broke that some individuals were coming together to confront the scourge of piracy, everybody would naturally want to be identified with such group and I made a move to link up. But when I noticed some undertones that the movement has some other undeclared activities, I held back to get a clearer picture. I eventually got the picture and I can tell you straight off that I cannot be a member of such organisation.'

Charly Boy also pledged his allegiance to Musicians Copyright Society of Nigeria, saying the he had been a member of the group since 1993.

'I eventually became a director of that organisation and served out my term of four years. Till now, I have always received progress reports on the activities of the organisation,' he said.

With an ongoing debate on whether there should be more than one collective society, the Area Fada said, 'Is there any sector in Nigeria that is not deregulated? Having more than one collective management organisation in the copyright sector will engender efficiency, transparency and more income to the copyright owners and the government.'
