OUR ENGLISH TEACHER IN SECONDARY 1 WALKED IN ONE DAY AND ASKED US TO TURN OUR EXERCISE TEXT BOOKS TO DO SOME EXERCISES. THE 1ST QUESTION WAS 'DO BIRDS FLY IN THE AIR?' FILL IN WITH THE OPTIONS - 'YES 'THEY DO, OR 'NO THEY DON'T'. AND CONCLUDE WITH 'BIRDS FLY IN THE AIR'. THE REVEREND TEACHER COMES TO CLASS WITH 2 LONG, STRONG CANES AND LIKES TO POINT AT RANDOM TO ANY OF US HE FEELS WON'T BE ABLE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION, SO WE ALWAYS TRY TO KEEP A STRAIGHT FACE WHENEVER QUESTIONS ARE POSED. THIS DAY, MARK (A VILLAGE BOY LUCKY TO BE IN OUR SCHOOL) WAS THE UNLUCKY FELLOW. HIS ANSWER WAS “YES E DO, BEDS FLY IN THE EAR”. THE TEACHER KEPT FLOGGING HIM EACH TIME HE KEPT REPEATING “YES E DO, BEDS FLY IN THE EAR”. THOSE WHO KNEW THE CORRECT ANSWER LAUGHED NONSTOP, THOSE WHO WERE LIKE MARK CONTINUED WITH THE STRAIGHT FACE. THE FLOGGING WENT ROUND ALL THOSE THAT KEPT A STRAIGHT FACE. IT WAS A DAY I WILL HARDLY FORGET. A TRUE LIFE STORY.-M.O
