Fayose Overwhelms Fayemi, Emerges Ekiti Governor Elect

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, June 22, (THEWILL) - Mr. Ayodele Peter Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday overwhelmingly defeated the incumbent Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to emerge the Governor-Elect of Ekiti State, according to the official result of the poll as announced by INEC.

The results released in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, by the election's returning officer, Professor Uzomah Asuzu, are as follows for the three main contenders - John Kayode Fayemi (APC), Ayodele Peter Fayode (PDP) and Bamidele Michael Opeyemi (Labour Party).

The PDP's candidate won in all the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.

Total registered voters for the poll was 733 766, while accredited voters stood at 369 257.

The returning officer declared as follows: 'Having satisfied the required laws and having secured the highest number of votes cast, Ayodele Peter Fayose is hereby declared winner of the election by me Professor Uzomah Asuzu…'

The electoral commission has been commended by monitoring groups for conducting a free and fair election.
