SAN FRANCISCO, June 12, (THEWILL) - The Abia State Government Thursday faulted a report published The Sun newspaper insinuating that Governor Theodore Orji and his family were behind the purported governorship ambition of the former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Ihejirika (rtd).

A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Charles Ajunwa, described the story as deceitful and malicious, saying the actual intention of the report is to paint the Abia First Family in bad light.

The statement said the claim by the reporter, Willy Eya, that Ihejirika was being backed by Orji, his wife and son 'is not only laughable but a comic relief to justify and satisfy his paymasters.'

The statement further said : 'Mr. Willy Eya showed how connected he is narrating what happened in far away United States where in Dr. Okey Nwadiuko's house, former Chief of Staff assured his kinsmen and more that he will contest.

'Conversely, he claimed that the governor, his wife and son have thrown their weight behind Ihejirika with full financial sponsorship without telling us where this happened.'

The statement described the story as a joke taken too far, especially coming from The Sun newspaper. It maintained that 'His Excellency Chief T.A.Orji is proffering solutions to the problems of the state and cannot afford such mischievous distractions.'
