The Federal Government said on Wednesday that Nigeria would celebrate this year's Democracy Day by showcasing the achievements of President Goodluck Janathan's administration in the last four years.

The Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, stated this in Abuja while briefing State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by Jonathan.

He said that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGOF) would coordinate a pragramme to commemorate the day on May 29 regardless of the terror attacks in some Northern parts of the country.

'Also, council today, discussed the programme for May 29. As you know, May 29 is the third anniversary of the election of President Goodluck Jonathan as President of Nigeria and it is also a reminder that our democracy has gradually come of age.

'And this in fact is the first time in the history of our country that we will be running a democratic system continuously for 15 years.

'In spite of all the distractions of terror, we believe that May 29 is an opportunity to showcase what this government has done.

'And so, the Office of the SGF is coordinating a programme for commemoration of May 29.

'That programme will showcase the achievements of this government in the last four years of the administration of President Jonathan.'

He said that the celebration would focus on programmes aimed at empowering the Nigerian youth.

According to Maku, the Federal Ministry of Information will undertake special documentaries on all aspects of the nation's development efforts in the last four years.

He said that the documentaries would be translated in local languages and aired nationwide to enlighten Nigerians on the achievements of the government in repositioning the country.

The minister further disclosed that the 2014 Ministerial Platform would be held by the third week of June.

He said the platform would be the final edition of the programme before the 2015 general elections.

According to him, the platform will show graphic pictures and video reports of the achievements of the government.

Maku narrated the tremendous achievements of the Federal Government in the rail and road transport, aviation, education, agriculture and the energy sectors of the economy.

He expressed optimism that the nation would continue to experience stability in electricity supply across the country as the new owners of the power companies had commenced massive investment of funds into the energy sector.
