IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde to Visit Morocco, Jordan and Participate in a High-Level Conference in Amman

WASHINGTON, May 5, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), will visit North Africa and the Middle East from May 7-12, 2014. Ms. Lagarde will start her trip by visiting Morocco on May 7-9 to meet with the authorities, including the Head of the Government, Mr. Abdelilah Benkiran, Minister of Economy and Finance, Mohamed Boussaid, Governor of Bank Al-Maghrib, Abdellatif Jouahri and other senior officials. Her visit will also be an opportunity to address the Economic, Social and Environmental Council and to engage with other sectors of society, including representatives of civil society, students, business and women leaders.

Ms. Lagarde will start her visit to Jordan on May 10. She will meet Prime Minister Abdallah Ensour, Finance Minister Umayya Touqan, Central Bank Governor Ziad Fariz, other senior government officials, as well as representatives of the various sectors of Jordan's society.

On May 11 and 12 she will participate in the high-level regional conference in Amman organized by the IMF, the Government of Jordan, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. Building the Future: Jobs, Growth, and Fairness in the Arab World will bring together more than 200 participants, including policy makers from the Middle East and North Africa, external partners, leading members of the private sector, academia, civil society and media, to discuss policies that can generate jobs, especially for the young, and lead to better growth and equity in the region.

These visits will be Ms. Lagarde's first to Morocco and Jordan as Managing Director of the IMF.
