Kano:Six Drugged To Death During Wedding Ceremony, As Police Arraign Man For Raping Six -Year Old Girl

A wedding ceremony in the northern Nigeria city of Kano turned melancholic at the weekend as six young men between the ages of 19 and 25 drugged themselves to death as Tijani Usman (26) and Hafsat Ibrahim (18) tied the knot.

Also in the ancient commercial city, police on Monday arraigned a 20 year-old man, Sadi Ahmed before a senior magistrate court No 25 sitting in Nomans-Land over an alleged rape of a six years old girl.

The six young men while popping in jubilation over their friends wedding took too many doses of illicit drugs in the spirit of celebration and eventually died in the process.

The incident happened at Naibawa Quarters during the reception of the marriage ceremony.

“All was going well as everyone was in a happy mood. There was enough to eat and drink. Invited guest, both young and old were in high spirit, but little did we know that the young men had engaged themselves in drug-taking competition which later resulted to their death. It was a tragic experience that would take time to get off the memory of those who witnessed it,” said an eyewitness.

The police, however, arrested the groom for question as the case is currently under investigation.

Kano state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majia confirmed the incident to Pointblanknews.com on phone, saying, “nobody reported this tragic incident to us but we were able to get information from residents and we swung into action and subsequently arrested Tijani Usman, the groom who is currently being questioned.” The dead have been buried according to Islamic rites.

On the rape case, First Information Report stated that, Sadi Ahmed, a 20-years –old resident of mile Tara in Kadawa village within Ungogo Local Government area , committed the alleged crime on March 19, when he lured his victim and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her on a tyre.

“On 22/2/2014 at about 2130 hours one Inusa Nuhu male, resident of Mile Tara, Kadawa village in Ungogo Local Government Area, Kano, reported at Ungogo division, that on 19/3/2014 at about 2000 hours, you Sadi Ahmad aged 20 years deceived and lured his daughter aged 6 years-old on top of a tyre and had sexual intercourse with her,” the charge sheet stated.

The accused person denied the allegation slammed against him before the court, police prosecutor, corporal Ibrahim Abdulrazak informed the court that the offence was capital in nature, adding that, the case file was ready for DPP advise, he told the court that it lacks jurisdiction to commence proceedings over the matter, he pray the court to adjourn the matter to another date for mention.

The court presided over by senior magistrate Ummi Sani Kurawa ordered the case adjourned to April, 29 for mention, the court further ruled that the accused person be remanded in prison custody.
