At Least 10 Dead, several wounded In Immigration Recruitment Stampede Incidents In Abuja, Benin

BEVERLY HILLS, March 15, (THEWILL) - At least ten applicants died from stampede at the National Stadium Abuja and the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday during recruitment exercises to fill vacancies at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

Several others were also injured during the stampede.

About 67, 000 applicants turned up at the Abuja venue while over 29, 000 applicants took part in the one day exercise in Benin City.

Among the dead in Benin were 3 pregnant women.
The exercise in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was also marred by stampede.

There are however no confirmed reports of any deaths.

The NIS had fixed today nationwide for recruitment to fill 7, 000 vacancies in the agency.
