Repossession Of Government Flats

The Government says the flats at Adenta, Sakumono, Dansoman and Tema are the bonafide property of the office of the President, allocated to it by SSNIT.

A statement from the Ministry of Information and Presidential Affairs signed by the Minister, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey said the government has taken note of media publications and discussions of the decision to take possession of these flats in parts of Accra belonging to the Office of the President.

It said occupants of the flats took up residence by virtue of their employment with the Office of the President. "It is most unfortunate, and indeed, unacceptable therefore for any tenant to consider his/her occupation as a permanent situation especially when those affected by the quit order are no longer in the employment of the Office of the President or should not have been in the flats in the first place."

It said the notice for the repossession of the flats is therefore in order and a justifiable move to ensure fairness in the treatment of all those who at one time or another served the Presidency in various capacities.

"The Government by this statement therefore serves notice of its determination to carry out the repossession exercise to the full since the said flats are duty posts for which reason continued occupation is conditioned on continued employment at the Office of the President."
