In line with the power sector policy of objective of Governor Godswill Akpabio to connect every village in Akwa Ibom state to the power grid, the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Power is currently making moves to restore power supply to villages in Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Attai LGA.

Some villages in Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai Local Government Areas have been without power supply for a while due to a natural disaster that damaged existing power infrastructures in the villages.

According to the village head of Ikot Akpa, one of the affected villages, Chief Effiong Joseph "during the rainy season, erosion occurred and washed away electricity poles, including an H-Section pole with isolator in the village"

He said since the incident, "Ikot Akpa, Ikot Abire, Ikot Obiota, Ikot Enua and surrounding villages have been without power supply" and pleaded with the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Power for intervention to bring succor to his people and the surrounding villages.

The Office of the SSA on Power discovered that the erosion caused multiple damages to the 33kV transmission lines supplying the villages and assured the people that necessary actions will be taken to restore electricity to the affected villages.

When Engr. Itoro Enang from the SSA's office contacted the Senior Manager Distribution, PHEDC Uyo Business Unit, Engr. Joseph Okafor, he said "materials to replace the fallen poles can only be supplied by the PHEDC headquarters in Port Harcourt"

Meanwhile the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Power is making efforts and exploring other options to fast track the replacement of the required materials and restore electricity to enhance the economic life of the affected villages.
