Boko Haram: 43 Students Killed In Yobe School Attack

BEVERLY HILLS, February 25, (THEWILL) - Boko Haram gunmen struck Monday night at the hostel of the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi , Yobe State, sending not less than 43 students to their early graves.

The Monday night attack in Yobe  in which 11 students were also injured came amid public outcry at the renewed deadly Boko Haram attacks on towns and villages in Borno State in which over 500 persons were killed.

A teacher at the school, Ibrahim Audu,  told the Yobe State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam,  that 29 students were killed in the over four-hour siege  but sources at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital Damaturu, the state capital,  put the death toll at 43 .

The gunmen who stormed the school's hostels in 11 vehicles at about 11:30pm and operated unhindered till about 4am also set 40 houses; hostels, classrooms and staff quarters on fire.

Gaidam, who paid a visit to the school to ascertain the extent of destruction,   promised to assist the school and the victims with N100 million even as he urged the military to change the tactics deployed to fight the insurgents in order to chalk more success.

Confirming the attack, the Yobe State Commissioner for Police, Ahmed Rufai, however said  29 students were killed in the siege.
