A staff of the Federal University, Oye, Ekiti State, died few hours after she and four other victims were set free by their abductors.

The deceased, Miss Fidelia Nnaji, was abducted with four other victims, including another staff of the institution, Miss Njideka Obiekwe on Jan. 14, along Ifaki-Ayegbaju road in Oye Local Government Area.

The unknown gunmen kept the five victims inside a thick forest, where they were kept for three days.

They were set free after Obiekwe's ATM card was taken and all her savings withdrawn as ransom.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Registrar of FUOYE, Mr Daniel Adeyemo, on Wednesday, the victims were led out of the forest on the night of  Jan. 16.

“The late Nnaji, who had been excessively traumatised and dehydrated, was too weak to make the journey out of the thick forest.

“Obiekwe, who was equally weak and tired mustered courage and assisted her colleague to a safe place, where she could get medical attention.

“The deceased was later found lying helplessly inside the forest between Ifaki and Iworoko-Ado Ekiti.

“ Efforts by a combined team of sympathisers and medical personnel to revive her failed, as she breathed her last at the early hours of Friday Jan. 17,'' the statement stated.

The statement also said that the remains of Nnaji would be buried on Jan. 31, at her hometown, Ndi-Agu Amechi Awkunanaw in Enugu State.

The statement said none of the students of the University was kidnapped, as erroneously reported in some newspapers.

He called on the security agencies to step up patrol in the University campuses in Oye and Ikole, to avert recurrence of such ugly incidence.
