APC cautions PDP against playing religious card

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned the Peoples Democratic Party  playing religious card in the run-up to the 2015 election, saying it portends nothing good for the country..

APC said the reason it had hitherto held back from joining issues with the PDP, despite its sponsored campaign to portray the APC as an ”Islamic” party, because it  is aware of the grave  dangers that religious politics portends for any nation.

According to the party, which has benefited handsomely from the crisis going in the PDP, no nation which descended into religious warfare has survived intact.

An Islamic cleric and a group under the aegis of Religious Equity Promotion Council (REPC) had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of championing an Islamic agenda in Nigeria just like the Egypt Muslim Brotherhood, explaining that that is why all the members of the Interim Executive Committee of the party are Muslims.

In a statement issued  on Wednesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, party said it is neither logical nor rational to accuse a party whose 35 interim officials are almost equally split between the adherents of the two major religions (18 Muslims and 17 Christians) of religious bias.
