The Bayelsa Police Command on Friday confirmed the abduction by unknown gunmen, of the wife of Chief Gbalipre Turner, the state treasurer of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The command's spokesman, Mr Alex Akhigbe (DSP) said in Yenagoa that the kidnappers also abducted Turner's son along with his wife.

Akhigbe said that the incident occurred on Thursday at the family house in Opume, Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

“I received information that the wife and son of the younger brother to King Turner were kidnapped yesterday by unidentified gunmen,' he said.

He said that some policemen had been deployed to the creeks in the state to hunt down the kidnappers.

“The kidnappers have not made any contact with the family; we are waiting for such contact to be established so that we can follow them up,” Akhigbe added.

The PDP chieftain is the younger brother of King Amalate Turner, the Obanema of Opume Kingdom.
