Acting Grand Khadi For Borno Sworn-In

Hhadi Abubakar Imam has been sworn-in as the Acting Grand Khadi of Borno State by Governor Kashim Shettima in line with the 1999 constitutional provision which stipulates that the most senior Khadi be appointed when a vacancy exists before a substantive Grand Khadi is finally appointed.

In a short but unique ceremony Governor Kashim Shettima reiterated the significance of the Sharia to the people of the state and urged the Acting Grand Khadi to be fair and just in the execution of his assignments.

He commended Khadi Abubakar Imam for the way he has been doing his duty in the past and assured of the maximum cooperation of his administration in ensuring that justice is accessible to all.

"I might be your Governor but be fair with with anything to do with me without regard to my position" he said.

"Borno is now the land of Emerging peace" he said and advocated for equal treatment to all irrespective of their religious beliefs" he said.

In his remark at the occasion the Chief Judge of Borno, Justice Kashim Zanna stated that the appointment of Khadi Abubakar Imam as the Acting Grand Khadi was a constitutional requirement without room for discretion under section 276 (4).

He said Sharia is important to the people stressing that as from 2007 a policy that judges of Sharia Court must be learned in Sharia, Hadith and the Quran therefore the panel was constituted by Eminent Ulama to test existing and aspiring khadis to ascertain their suitability for appointment as Khadis,

He congratulated Governor Shettima for keeping faith with his oath of office by allowing absolute independence of the judiciary in the state.

In his own remark at the occasion the Acting Grand Khadi, Khadi Abubakar Imam expressed gratitude to God for his appointment and for making the judiciary in Borno proud.
