Awka, Aug. 28  Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, an oil magnate, on Wednesday in Awka emerged the Labour Party candidate in Anambra for the Nov. 16 gubernatorial election.

Ubah was declared winner by the National Chairman of the party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, after a three-time voice votes and raise of hands from the 1137 delegates who participated in the primaries.

Nwanaynwu said that Ubah was the only aspirant who picked and returned his nomination form timely, and therefore a sole aspirant of the party for the governorship race in Anambra.

He said that Article 24 of the party’s constitution allowed the selection of a candidate by acclamation, show of hands or through a secret ballot.

“Where you have one aspirant after the close of nomination forms and return, the congress will vote yes or no, and the constitution allowed him to decide how a winner will emerge,'' he said.

He urged the party members to go back home and work assiduously for the party and Ubah's victory at polls, pointing out that the votes must count.

“What you have done now is democracy in action and who becomes the governor of Anambra will be decided by the Anambrains and nobody else,'' he said.

Nwanyanwu urged INEC and Anambra government to allow the people to cast their votes, stressing that anything contrary would be resisted legally.

According to him, the people of Anambra are tired and they want change and somebody who will give them good governance.

Ubah commended the party leadership and delegates who turned out in their large number to select him as the party's candidate.

He assured them that he would give them quality governance and would not disappoint their trust on him to fly the party's flag at the governorship election on Nov. 1
