Suarez Receives 10-Match Ban From FA

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez will miss the remainder of the Barclays Premier League season after being handed a 10-match ban by the Football Association for violent conduct.

The Uruguay international was charged this week following a clash with Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic during Sunday's 2-2 Barclays Premier League draw at Anfield in which Suarez appeared to bite the arm of the Serbia centre-back.

On Wednesday a three-man disciplinary panel ruled that Suarez must serve a 10-match ban, which rules the Uruguay forward out of Liverpool's remaining top-flight matches against Newcastle United, Fulham, Everton and Queens Park Rangers.

The 26-year-old, who has until midday on Friday 26 April to appeal the decision, will also be sidelined for the opening six matches of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season.

"Luis Suarez has been suspended for a total of ten matches after an Independent Regulatory Commission today ruled on a charge of violent conduct," read a statement on TheFA.com. "A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission today upheld The FA’s claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect."

In a statement on the Liverpool website, managing director Ian Ayre said: "Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today's Independent Regulatory Commission decision. We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment."
