Forces against power sector reform behind labour unrest - FG

By The Citizen

The Federal Government has alleged that most actions undertaken by labour unions against the privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria are being promoted by forces that are not interested in the ongoing power sector reform process.

According to the government, individuals who benefit from a non-privatised power sector are enormous and are bent on making sure that the process does not work.

The Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Power, Mr. Beks Dagogo-Jack, who spoke with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, said the government was not being defensive whenever it told Nigerians that there were cabals in the sector who did not want the reforms to work.

He said, 'There are too many forces in this sector. There are a lot of forces that are not interested in this game. And sometimes, when we talk about it, people think we are being defensive.

'But I wish that at some point, nature will make it for you (journalists) to be on this side of the table to know what I am talking about. There are some people who benefit from the fact that there is no reform. That there is no privatisation, they benefit from it.'
