ONDO 2013: ACN CANDIDATE EMERGES MAY 2

By NBF News

There are strong indications that governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), for the coming gubernatorial election in Ondo State will emerge on Wednesday, May 2.

The decision to pick the candidate on that date was unanimously taken at a secret meeting of a special committee of the party at a sleepy town in Ondo State on Monday.

A source close to the meeting confided in Daily Sun that the number of the aspirants from whom one would be picked had been further pruned down to three from the initial five pencilled down for screening.

Daily Sun on Monday exclusively reported that five out of about 25 aspirants jostling to occupy the Alagbaka Government House in Akure had been on the watch list of the party.

The source revealed that the three names that made the final list as at Monday were the two-time House of Representatives member, Dr. Jayeola Ajatta, former corps marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps and Minister for Power and Steel, Dr. Ol

u Agunloye and new entrant into the party and Labour Party (LP) Senator, Prof. Robert Ajayi Borofice.

The source further revealed that 'the party's decision to pick an Akoko man as candidate is borne out of the realisation that the axis turns out the largest number of votes in any election in the state,' adding that 'the Ilaje riverine communities are also considered for the number two slot because they have never produced governor since the creation of the state.'

Daily Sun can also reveal authoritatively that a mega rally code-named, 'Operation Sweep Alagbaka' has been planned for Akure, the state capital to showcase the party's strength in the state.

Towards that end, a Grassroots Mobilisation and Contact Committee to be coordinated by the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola was in the offing.

A member of the committee, who craved anonymity, told Daily Sun in confidence that 'the Ondo project, as far as ACN is concerned, is a serious matter,' saying 'the spirit of regional integration has been the propelling force behind the party's commitment to the Ondo 2013 Ondo gubernatorial project.'
