Abuja-Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, campaign committee for the 2012 governorship election in Bayelsa State has cancelled the grand rally planned for Yenegoa, the state capital today, as a mark of respect for the huge number of people killed in Kano on Friday by Boko Haram Islamic sect.

The committee, headed by the Vice President, Mr. Namadi Sambo, was constituted last Thursday to market PDP flagbearer, Mr. Seriake Dickson, though Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was yet to include the PDP candidate on the list of candidates for the election.

INEC, while releasing the list of candidates, said it was yet to ascertain the real candidate for PDP in the forthcoming election in the state, because of a pending case at the Appeal Court filed by Governor Timipre Sylva.

According to PDP's Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Alkali, the party is in pain over the Kano incident in which more than 100 people were killed.

He said the acting National Chairman of the party had condoled with President Goodluck Jonathan over the incident.

The party said: 'Our hearts go especially to the Governor of Kano State, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, the government and people of Kano State over this harrowing experience.

'May the gentle souls of all those who died rest in perfect peace and may God give the families of all those who died, the injured and those who lost properties, the strength to bear the loss with fortitude.'
