Muslim and Christian groups say seven people are dead after another clash in central Nigeria, a region often violently divided by faith.

The fighting occurred Thursday in the Barkin Ladi area near the city of Jos, which has seen hundreds killed in recent years in disturbances.

Sani Mohammed, a Muslim community leader, said Thursday that they collected three dead bodies. Mark Lipdo who heads a Christian group said it counted four others.

The state government announced a 24-hour curfew in an area where authorities said at least seven others had died in another clash Monday.

This is the latest unrest in Nigeria, an oil-rich country of more than 160 million people split between a largely Muslim north and Christian south.
