10 Die In Katsina Auto Crash

KATSINA, June 02, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s road safety agency, the FRSC has said that ten (10) persons have died following a vehicle accident which left several others injured.

A head-on collision involving a red Nissan Urban Bus and a Toyota Corolla Sedan in Abukur village along Katsina-Kano road on Thursday in Katsina State, North West Nigeria, was responsible for the deaths and injuries.

The 18-seater bus is property of the Katsina State Transport Service, with registration number XF 401 KTN was headed for Kano, while the white Toyota Corolla car marked AG 54 SRP is privately owned and was travelling from Kano to Katsina.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the police and Civil Defence Corps were seen by THEWILL correspondent trying to remove remains of one of the victims from the White Corolla car.

The identity of the victims were not made public as at press time.

Mr. Tartius Haziel who led the FRSC rescue team to the scene of the incident confirmed that ten people died on the spot.

Mr. Haziel disclosed that six occupants of the Corolla car were feared dead while three passengers died in the bus.

He attributed the crash to dangerous and reckless overtaking.

The remains of the dead have been taken to Katsina State General Hospital morgue while the wounded are also being treated at the hospital.
