SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 07, (THEWILL) - The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki (Kwara), Sunday led a delegation of the NGF on a condolence visit to the Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sheriff following the killing of the gubernatorial candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state, Modu Fannami Gubio, along with the younger brother of the governor, Goni Mustapha Sheriff and five other persons by gunmen suspected to be of the Nigerian Al-Qaida, Boko Haram.

Also on the delegation were Mr. Peter Obi (Anambra), Vice Chairman of the NGF; Chief Servant Aliyu Babangida (Niger); Senator Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Alhaji Ibrahim Shema (Katsina).

The NGF presented the letter below to Governor Sheriff.

Your Excellency,

We are in Maiduguri on behalf of all members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum to commiserate with you and the good people of Borno State over the recent killings in the State.

We pray for the lives lost and for God’s support to the immediate family members of those affected. We also pray that God fills the vacuum created by this dastardly act.

We condemn in absolute terms this mindless and unconscionable behaviour and call for heightened awareness and professionalism by our security agencies. There is no accommodation for this kind of recklessness.

Events of this nature could also affect the integrity of our electoral process and completely mar ongoing efforts at trying to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in the country.

In the coming days, policy deliberations around our national security and the role of the country’s intelligence community in tracking acts of this nature will be given renewed priority at the Forum.

We assure you of our continued support as the Chief Security Officer of Borno State.

Yours truly,

H.E. Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki
Chairman
Nigeria Governors’ Forum
