The Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Council, Ekiti State chapter has allayed the fears of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the State over the party's chances in the 2011 general elections, urging members of the party to remain steadfast and committed in their support.

State Coordinator of the Campaign Council, Rt. Hon. Femi Akinyemi, while addressing local government and ward coordinators of the organisation during a meeting in Ado-Ekiti, today said the judicial victories recorded by the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) on Ekiti and Osun States governorship elections was not a measure of acceptability of the party in the Southwest.

He added that losing the Ekiti and Osun States governorship was only a challenge to the PDP, adding that; “What is needed now is for us to work very hard to show Nigerians that the PDP is the dominant party in Ekiti State and that we can only do through commitment and support for the party candidates in the 2011 general elections.”

Akinyemi, who lamented the seeming judicial gang-up against the ruling PDP, noted that; “What we have witnessed in the last few months portends grave danger for the nations democracy. It is dangerous because our people are now being disenfranchised by our courts to pave way for the emergence of governors through deduction and subtraction of votes.

“It is even more dangerous because Nigerians are now being told by our courts that a candidate can win elections simply by destroying voting materials and heading for the tribunal to claim that no election was held.

“But even at that, we still have confidence in our judiciary and we believe that the judicial system will continue to correct itself.

“Therefore, I wish to implore all of you here today that what our friends on the other side had was judicial victory, which they themselves know they do not deserve and cannot sustain.

“What we only need on our party is to remain steadfast as members of our great party, the PDP and continue to support the presidential aspiration of President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo.

“With PDP in government at the centre, we are sure of taking back Ekiti State from the present judicial-installed government come 2014,”

Akinyemi said.
