Nigerian troops gun down Boko Haram terrorist, arrest kingpin

Nigerian troops fighting the Boko Haram insurgents in the northeastern state of Borno have scored a bull’s eye in  its offensive  to clear Boko Haram terrorists enclave around Kwatarha and Torikwaptir general area of Gwoza Local Government Area of the state.

The troops gunned  down a notorious Boko Haram militant that had constituted an unrelenting torment  among the communities, according to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations,Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman.

Usman said in a statement Tuesday that during the operation four other terrorists were believed to have escaped with gun shot wounds. An AK-47 rifle was recovered from him, the statement said.

Usman  also announced that troops of 3 Division had arrested a suspected Boko Haram terrorists group kingpin, Alhaji Tijjani Usman Damagum,  after he had been tracked down  at Damagum town, Yobe State on Monday.

As a high profile Boko Haram terrorists' group member, he has led Boko Haram members on various attacks especially in Yobe State,the statement disclosed.

The suspect is currently undergoing interrogation with a view to arraigning him soon, Colonel Usman said.
