Elections in Rivers, Credible, Reflect wishes of the People- PDP

By Rivers State PDP

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP says the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in the State on Saturday was credible and the result reflects the overwhelming wish of the people of Rivers State to support President Goodluck Jonathan and candidates of the Party.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Bro Felix Obuah made the assertion in a Statement in Port Harcourt and made available to Journalists.

"Rivers State is a traditional PDP State and even if the elections are conducted a million times, the PDP will win here. Was the APC expecting Rivers people to vote for another Presidential candidate other than President Goodluck Jonathan? That must be a wishful thinking" the Chairman added.

He condemned in strong terms the resort to violence and falsehood by members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and vehemently denies allegations of violence levelled against members of the PDP.

On the call by the APC for the cancellation of the polls in Rivers State, the PDP said there was nothing in the conduct of the elections that will warrant such call, describing it as the behaviour of bad losers.

The party said allegations of violence against its members were diversionary and orchestrated by the APC to disrupt the election, when it became clear to members of the APC in Rivers State that PDP would win.

On the other hand, it is the APC that has been investing in violence in the State. A few examples will show. In Gokana Local Government Area, of the State, armed members of the APC in Bera, home town of Senator Magnus Abe and Chief Victor Giadom, APC Governorship Candidate Campaign Director General, acting on the instructions of their leaders, went to the home of one of the PDP stalwarts and the former PDP Governorship Aspirant, Hon Dumbari Ben-Dimkpa, also from Bera and burnt down his house. They also set ablaze all his cars, went to his filling station, also in Bera and destroyed all the pumps and other property there.

The Chairman, Caretaker committee of Khana Local Government Council, Mr Derek Mene in company of armed APC boys also unleashed mayhem in the area.

In Ogbakiri, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Governor Amaechi's Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Emma Chinda with armed APC boys shot sporadically and attempted to hijacked the election materials but they met with resistance.

In Ozuaha in Ikwerre Local Government on Saturday, security details attached to Governor Amaechi shot and killed a PDP member.

Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in Ubima, Ikwerre LGA, against the electoral law forcefully wanted to stop the election processes but the courage of the PDP and security agencies repelled his devilish intentions.

Amaechi is known for making false alarm, misleading and inciting comments.

Same report to disrupt the elections by armed members of the APC was received in all most all the Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

The PDP had earlier issued a statement alleging attempts by Governor Amaechi and the APC to disrupt the elections. To execute the plan, Amaechi released cultists, kidnappers and other criminals who were in detention, awaiting trial and armed them for the elections, with an order to deliver the APC and stir up crisis in the State.
