Ekiti Election: Abatemi-Usman Hails PDP’s Victory

The Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, has congratulated the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election, which took place on Saturday, June 21, 2014, Ayo Fayose of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In statement signed by Mr. Michael Jegede, the Senator's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Abatemi-Usman, representing Kogi Central Senatorial on the platform of PDP, described the outcome of the election as a welcome development.

'We are happy that the candidate of our great party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious at the governorship election held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 in Ekiti State. No doubt, the outcome of the election is an indication that the people of Ekiti State have an unalloyed confidence and trust in the PDP and its candidate, Ayo Fayose.

I congratulate Fayose, the PDP and the entire people of Ekiti State and implored all citizens in the state to join hands with the in-coming Governor to lift Ekiti to greater heights,' the statement reads.

The Senator further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for putting in place necessary machineries that made the conduct of the election credible, free and fair, to the admiration all Nigerians.

He urged the commission to repeat same in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State and the 2015 general elections. According to him, 'that is the only way peace can be sustained in the country and post-election violence averted.'

Abatemi-Usman also lauded the outgoing Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), for his maturity in accepting the results of the election and vowing to work with Fayose to move the state forward.
